Day 1 - Arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah
Begin your Western frontier adventure as you gather in Salt Lake City, Utah. Meet your fellow travelers at a special dinner at 6:00 p.m. hosted by your Tour Manager, and then enjoy a rehearsal by the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir (when available).
Day 2 - Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole
Take a step back in time as you explore Salt Lake City's historic Temple Square and walk in the footsteps of the Mormon settlers who founded this city more than 150 years ago. Just as remarkable is the Great Salt Lake, the region's most renowned natural landmark, with its deep, turquoise waters ringed by glistening white sand beaches. Your next stop on this frontier tour is Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the dinner bell will call you to the Bar J Chuckwagon for an evening of songs, stories, entertainment, and authentic cowboy chow.
Day 3 - Grand Teton National Park
The spectacular vistas of the Grand Teton Mountains offer a thrilling view from the white waters of the Snake River during a delightful floating trip. With its wooden boardwalks and unique antler-horn arches, downtown Jackson Hole brings the Old West to life. During the summer, catch local cowpokes in action at the Jackson Hole Rodeo, or after Labor Day, enjoy a show at the Jackson Hole Playhouse.
Day 4 - Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone, the nation's oldest national park, is a breathtaking natural wonderland. As you travel to your lodge, located right inside the park, you may catch a glimpse of majestic herds of buffalo, endless evergreen forests, and the awe-inspiring rock formations. After you check into your room, you'll have the evening at leisure to begin exploring this remarkable natural landmark.
Day 5 - Yellowstone's Geysers and Canyons
There's much to see on our tour in Yellowstone, which is located on one of the world's largest active volcanoes. You'll witness the eruption of the famed geyser Old Faithful, and thrill to the crashing waters of the upper and lower falls at one of the park's other renowned formations, the breathtaking Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
Day 6 - Buffalo Bill Territory
As legendary as the sweeping plains and towering mountains of the Old West were, so were the grand personalities that became drawn to the frontier. As you explore the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, you'll encounter some of these historic figures, including Bill himself, the renowned sharpshooter Annie Oakley, Indian chief Sitting Bull, and frontier scout Texas Jack Vermillion Omohundro. Next, you take an expedition into the expansive Bighorn Mountains, where cowboys still graze their flocks of sheep and herds of cattle as in days of the Old West.
Day 7 - Devils Tower and Deadwood
Approaching the Black Hills, catch a glimpse of Devils Tower in the distance. This looming monolith served as the backdrop for the classic Steve Spielberg film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. At the historic cemetery of Boot Hill, Deadwood preserves the traditions and lore of the Old West. From its 19-century casinos to its museums, this historic mining town offers a glimpse into the lives of gamblers and gunslingers who once strolled these fames streets.
Day 8 - The Badlands and Mt. Rushmore
Today we venture into the Badlands with a local guide. Badlands National Park consists of nearly 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended with the largest protected mixed grass prairie in the United States. See Mt. Rushmore, a stirring monument dedicated to our country's greatest leaders. We also stop at Crazy Horse Monument, a work in progress honoring the Indians native to the land. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner at the K Bar S Lodge, a warm and rustic forest refuge which offers spectacular views of Mt. Rushmore.
Day 9 - Rapid City and Home
After a final morning in Rapid City, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
